2011-2012 School Year

Dear Students and Parents,

Wheelock School faculty and staff warmly welcome you to the 2011-12 school year! We have been working hard all summer to prepare for a much-anticipated opening of school. When you arrive at school you will find fresh paint, sparkling clean classrooms and very excited teachers who can’t wait to meet their new students.

The first day of school for students in grades 1-5 is Tuesday, September 6, 2011.

We are changing our school hours a bit this year!  Breakfast will be served the first day, and each day thereafter beginning at 8:05. The bell for the start of school will now ring at 8:20. Each morning students in grades K-2 will gather at the small (north) playground. Students in grades 3-5 will gather at the large (south) playground. We will have many extra adults outside the first few days of school to help students find their way. The first day of school is a great time to take a picture as your child waves good-bye when they enter the building.  Dismissal will be at 3:00.

Screening of this year’s Kindergarten students will be done by appointment on September 6th and 7th. Orientation for Kindergarten students and families will be held on Friday, September 9th at 9:00 am. The first day of school for Kindergarten students will be Monday, September 12th,.

First Student will be publishing bus routes in the Keene Sentinel the week before school opens, and in the Keene Shopper News (8/24/11). Bus routes will also be posted online at www.sau29.org.

There are several staff changes for 2011-12.  Sadly, Ms. Kendra DeVivo and Ms. Jessie Gagne-Hall are not returning to Wheelock as they have moved from the area.  Please join me in welcoming our new teachers, Ms. Ann Moore Odell in grade 3 and Mrs. Abbie Olson in grade 4.

Enjoy your last few weeks of summer!

Best,

Gwen S. Mitchell, Principal
